Island County Sheriff’s Office to accept old pills

The Island County Sheriff’s Office is once again planning to collect used prescription drugs.

The department’s Drug Take Back Program is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. There will be three locations on Whidbey Island to return any expired, unused or unwanted prescription drugs: Island County Sheriff’s Office in Freeland at 5521 E. Harbor Road, Coupeville Marshal’s Office at 4 N.E. Seventh St., and Oak Harbor Police Department at 860 S.E. Barrington Drive.

The service is free and anonymous, with no questions asked.

Common ways of disposing unused drugs, such as flushing them down a toilet or throwing them away, pose potential safety and health hazards, a news release said.
