Honor veterans at Whidbey Island ceremonies

A ceremony to honor veterans will take place at the traditional hour this morning.

At the 11th hour, on the 11th day of the 11th month, a Veteran's Day ceremony will be held at Bayview Cemetery. A potluck will follow at the South Whidbey American Legion Post 141 on Highway 525.

The town of Coupeville will hold its annual Veterans Day ceremony at the same time. It takes place at the Veteran’s Memorial located next to the Commissioners Hearing Room at the county campus on N.E. Sixth Street in Coupeville.

During the ceremony, volunteers will unfurl flags representing each of the Armed Forces, the Merchant Marine as well as for prisoners of war/missing in action and the United States flag.

At 11:11 a.m. the nearby Methodist Church will ring the bell.

Coupeville isn’t the only city on Whidbey Island honoring veterans in November.

Oak Harbor’s Veterans Day parade takes place from 2 to 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 9 in downtown Oak Harbor.
