Island Recycling contract extended

Island County commissioners approved an amendment to the contract with Island Recycling, extending the service for three additional years.

The county originally contracted with Island Recycling on Dec. 28, 2009 for recycling services, an agreement with an original expiration date of Dec. 31, 2014.

Freeland-based Island Recycling provides recycling services at the county’s Coupeville transfer station.

The contract allows the county to extend the agreement for a maximum of three years. In exchange, Island Recycling agreed to complete construction of a third fabric building which ensures environmental regulatory compliance. In addition, the amendment adjusts Island Recycling’s requirement for general aggregate insurance from $1,000,000 to $2,000,000.
