The Island County Auditor's Office has set up a potential filing period for people interested in running as a commissioner for the proposed Whidbey-based electric company.

The tentative filing period will be Aug. 13, 14 and 15.

The filing period won't become official until Island County commissioners vote to create district boundaries for the proposed public utility district, or PUD. That's expected to happen in early August.

Last Thursday, organizers of "People for Yes on Whidbey PUD" held a private meeting in Freeland Library for people interested in becoming a PUD commissioner.

The group will hold a second meeting for potential commissioner candidates at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 31 at the Oak Harbor Library.
