Whidbey General Hospital moves forward on new EMS station

A new $1.2 million Emergency Medical Services building in Bayview moved a step closer Wednesday.

Hospital district commissioners voted to call for bids next week on the project, which will be built along Highway 525 near Bayview Road.

Tom Tomasino, chief operating officer for Whidbey General Hospital, said the project will be advertised next week, with a bid walk-through scheduled for Sept. 8 and bid openings on Sept. 15.

The 4,500-square-foot structure will feature broad planes, prominent visibility and natural wood siding,” and will reflect the rural character of nearby farms, according to designers Mahlum Architects. Vehicle bays will face the highway.

The building will accommodate six people, and is expected to be completed next spring.
