Island County Fair administrator Sandey Brandon reported that gate receipts at this year’s fair were $83,646, an increase of $4,805 from 2007, and $4 more than in 2006.

“This money is in the bank and reflects just the period from Thursday through Sunday,” Brandon said. “Some 4-H people, the carnival and concessions money still hasn’t come in, so the overall final figure will be higher.”

Brandon added that unaudited results on attendance will be released on Friday, Aug. 29.

Fair Board chairman Dan Ollis said earlier that preliminary numbers are trending toward those in 2006, when attendance reached 22,593. But he said they should be better than last year, when 21,820 attended, including visitors, vendors and volunteers.

Last year’s gate receipts totaled $78,841.
