Incumbent Republican Phil Bakke has officially advanced to the November ballot in the District 1 race for Island County commissioner.

The Island County election department certified the Aug. 19 primary today, and Bakke finished second in the four-person race for county commissioner.

Democrat Helen Price Johnson received the most votes in the race — 5,255 — and earned 46 percent of the vote.

Bakke collected 2,294 votes in the race, 52 more than the third-place finisher, no-party candidate Curt Gordon. Bakke got 20 percent of all ballots cast in the race; Gordon, 19 percent.

Republican Reece Rose finished fourth, with 1,600 votes, or 14 percent.

Under the state's top-two primary, Price Johnson and Bakke will advance to November's general election.
