Soldier from Island County dies in Afghanistan

A soldier from Island County has died in Afghanistan, the Pentagon announced Tuesday afternoon.

Capt. Robert D. Lindenau, 39, of Camano Island, died Oct. 20 in Charbagh, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when a rocket-propelled grenade struck his vehicle, according to the Department of Defense.

He was assigned to the 91st Civil Affairs Battalion, 95th Civil Affairs Brigade (Airborne), Fort Bragg, N.C.
