Langley building official Bob Snyder said the city was handling 48 building permits so far this year, which include five new single-family homes.

Last year, Langley handled 75 permits, including 28 for new single-family homes.

He said the city has averaged about seven to 10 permits for new single-family homes annually over the past decade.

There are currently 33 active permits for single-family homes, and 18 are under construction. The remainder will probably be built over the next two years, Snyder said.

Snyder also noted there are 23 homes currently on the market in Langley that have been listed for sale about 196 days on average, and the houses have a median price of $449,000.
