Langley City Council to get power update

Weather-related power outages, or the lack of them, will highlight of tonight's Langley City Council meeting.
Two representatives from Puget Sound Energy will outline recent steps the utility has taken to improve service and prevent disruptive outages such as those that occurred during the winter of 2005-06.
The council will at 6:30 p.m. at city hall. A 4 p.m. council workshop also is scheduled.
Representing PSE will be Dom Amor, government and community relations manager for Island County, and Walt Blackford, Whidbey Island community services supervisor from the company’s Freeland office.
They’ll talk about recent service improvements, as well as new policies and procedures PSE has put into place, said Lynn Sterbenz, Langley’s emergency planning coordinator.
She said the city has worked hard on emergency preparedness, especially in the event of blackouts, and that the lack of power outages during the recent snowstorms was a pleasant surprise.
“We wondered why that was the case, and thought the South Whidbey community might want to know, as well,” Sterbenz said.
She said she and Langley Mayor Paul Samuelson met recently with PSE officials, and invited them to make a presentation to the city.
