A new group is exploring the idea of creating a parks district for Central Whidbey residents.

A Greenbank-based group called the Central Whidbey Parks & Recreation Formation Committee will host a roundtable meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 19 at the Coupeville Rec Hall.

A parks district is a junior taxing district; property owners within the boundaries of the district pay taxes each year to support the district’s activities.

The committee is inviting citizens, organization representatives and elected officials to the meeting. Committee members will talk about the formation of the district, as well as a possible timetable.
