It might come as no surprise that Langley made it to the top.

West Press has just released a new guide to the 100 best getaways in the country with "The Great Towns of America," by David and Joan Vokac.

Langley was described by the authors as "a romantic getaway by the sea" along with 99 other locales where the comforts and artistry of civilization blend easily with their natural surroundings.

Other Washington towns that made the elite list include Chelan, La Conner, Leavenworth and Port Townsend.

The authors said they wrote the book from both a traveler's and urban escapist's perspective and packed it with detailed information about fun-filled getaway communities.

The guide, which takes the subtitle of "All New Guide to the 100 Best Getaways for a Vacation of a Lifetime," focuses on prime attractions, restaurants, lodgings and a weather profile for each selected town. The final chapter provides tables on livability and affordability which enables readers to compare Langley to each of the other towns, America's largest cities and the nation.

The book sells for $23.95 and is available at www.greattowns.com.
