About 30 South Whidbey teenagers will participate in a 24-hour food fast this weekend to promote global hunger awareness.

The teens, part of the Youth Ministry Program at St. Hubert Catholic Church in Langley, will begin fasting at 6 p.m. Friday, March 20 until 4 p.m. Saturday, March 21. at the church.

They will drink only water and juice, and end the fast with a humble meal common to Indonesia and Ethiopia, said Patty Maddux, pastoral associate for faith formation and youth ministry.

The middle and high school participants also will spend several hours Saturday working with the Good Cheer Food Bank and the WIN program, she said.

Food Fast is Catholic Relief Services’ hunger-awareness program for Catholic youths in the United States.
