Island County will spend $189,000 for three gateway monuments to welcome visitors to Whidbey Island.

The monuments will mark three entry points to the Whidbey Scenic Isle Way, and will be placed on Highway 525 near the Clinton Ferry Terminal, on Highway 20 near the Keystone Ferry Terminal, and on Highway 20 near Deception Pass State Park.

Much of the costs of the monuments will be covered by grants. That funding includes a $98,100 National Scenic Byway grant, and an additional grant of $17,500.
