Workshops, meetings set for Island County’s 2010 budget

Island County has completed its schedule for preparing next year’s budget.

Budget workshops kick off on Monday, Sept. 14 during the regular session for Island County commissioners.

The review starts at 11 a.m. with district court and district court probation, followed by the civil service commission at 11:30 a.m. Talk on the budget for the Island County Prosecutor’s Office is at 1, followed by the sheriff, jail and emergency management departments at 1:30 p.m. Commissioners will then discuss the clerk’s budget at 2 and the coroner’s at 2:30 p.m.

Budget talk continues during a regular session at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21 to talk about superior court and the law library, followed by juvenile court services.

A special session will be held on Monday, Sept. 28 to talk about human services and drug treatment courts. The session starts at 10 a.m.

During a regular session on Monday, Oct. 5, commissioners will talk about miscellaneous funds. The talk will cover multiple agencies and associations that receive funding from Island County, including Senior Services of Island County, Ebey’s Landing National Historic Reserve and the Economic Development Council.

Budget talks continue during a regular session on Monday, Oct. 12. Commissioners are planning to talk about the county fair at 11 a.m., followed by public health pooling at 1 and the planning department at 1:30 p.m. Other topics in the afternoon session include capital project funds, public works and parks.

On Wednesday, Oct. 14, commissioners will talk about the budgets for the assessor, auditor and treasurer during the morning’s regular session. In the afternoon, budget discussions will focus on central services, facilities, human resources and the general services administration.

Budget Director Elaine Marlow will give a review of the budget for commissioners at 3 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 19; Wednesday, Oct. 21; Monday, Oct. 26; Wednesday, Oct. 28; and 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 2.

Dates for additional workshops, if needed, have been set for Monday, Nov. 9; Monday, Nov. 16; and Monday, Nov. 23.

The budget is expected to be presented to the board during the regular session on Monday, Nov. 9.

Though commissioners have not formally set the date, a public hearing on the 2010 budget is expected on Dec. 7 in Coupeville.
