Extra patrols lead to 34 DUI arrests in Island County

Police arrested 34 drivers in Island County for DUI during the "Drive Hammered, Get Nailed" enforcement campaign that ended Sept. 7.

The Island County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington State Patrol participated in extra emphasis patrols that started Aug. 14 and ran for more than three weeks. The patrols were funded by a grant from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.

Statewide, police arrested 2,818 drivers for DUI, according to the commission.
