There are still no takers for Island County Fire District 3’s surplus property at Thompson Road, Chief Dan Stout said.

“I wish I had people lined up to buy it, but I don’t,” Stout said.

The district purchased the 20 acres at the end of Thompson Road just past the Tilth Farmers Market about eight years ago as a possible site for a new central facility, Stout said.

The district decided to look elsewhere, however, because of neighborhood concerns and limited access to Highway 525.

District officials later purchased 4.5 acres at Bayview Corner, between Bayview School and Good Cheer, but plans for a new facility have been put on the back burner until the economy improves.

Meanwhile, the two parcels at Thompson Road remain for sale for about $500,000, Stout said.
