Times have been set for public meetings this weekend for Island County Fire District 3 commissioners to interview six finalists to replace Fire Chief Dan Stout.

The commissioners will meet at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 18341 Highway 525 in Freeland.

They’ll meet again at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 11 at district headquarters, 5535 Cameron Road in Freeland.

Top candidates in the process will be interviewed again early next week, and commissioners hope to make a decision at that time, Stout said.

The six candidates, who Stout declined to name, were selected after a nationwide search by an executive recruiting firm. Stout also declined to say if a local candidate is included.

Stout, 66, is retiring in February after 43 years in various fire services, the past five with District 3.

Meanwhile, the location of the district commissioners’ next regular meeting has been changed. The meeting is 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at the Langley Fire Station, 820 Camano Ave.
