Island County commissioners unanimously approved a new lease Monday for the South Whidbey Parks & Recreation District to rent the county’s building at 5455 Maxwelton Road.

The rent for the facility was reduced from $3,821 a month — which covers the county’s utility, landscaping, maintenance and other costs — to $500 a month for the parks district.

Under the lease, the parks district will cover the cost of utilities, landscaping maintenance and minor repairs.
