After years of wrangling over who owns what at the Bush Point boat- launch facility, the mist has parted: The Port of South Whidbey owns it, lock, stock and barrel.

In a letter from the state Department of Fish & Wildlife signed by Gov. Christine Gregoire on Oct. 15, the port was granted “all rights, title and interest” for the property it has managed for the past 11 years.

The letter says the port “hereby waives any and all future wildlife damage claims ... and does accept the risk of such damage to persons or property caused by wildlife.”

Presumably this refers to an errant sea otter biting a fisherman, Port Commissioner Geoff Tapert said Wednesday.
