A young driver walked away with scratches after his SUV went off Cultus Bay Road at Goldfinch Lane and rolled over, officials said.

The driver, a juvenile who was alone in the vehicle, told officials he may have fallen asleep, said Deputy Chief Jon Beck of Island County Fire District 3.

The incident occurred about 2 a.m. Saturday, Beck said.

The accident was unrelated to weather conditions, Beck said. Freezing rain coated several roadways Sunday night, making driving treacherous in some areas of the South End and delaying the start of school for two hours on Monday.

But apparently, drivers were cautious — fire district crews were not summoned to a single incident during the slick period, Beck said.
