'Gunshots' near Clinton were fireworks

A report of gunshots and sounds of distress in the South End apparently can be blamed fireworks, the Island County Sheriff's office reported.

Deputies responded to a call from a resident along Wilkinson Road north of Clinton shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2.

The woman caller said she heard a scream, followed by gunshots, followed by someone screaming "Oh my God!"

She said she was afraid her neighbor had just shot someone, Det. Ed Wallace said.

Officers searched the area and determined that people had been shooting off fireworks and bottle rockets.

"Someone apparently was having a party," Wallace said
