An update of a proposed central facility and training center will be discussed at tonight’s meeting of Island County Fire District 3 commissioners.

The meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 8, at the Freeland Fire Station, 5535 Cameron Road.

The district has been moving slowly toward building a new headquarters on property it owns at Bayview Corner. Proposed is a 10,000-square-foot, two-bay fire station, a 5,400-square-foot administration building and a 400-square-foot training tower.

The cost has been estimated at about $4.4 million. The district remains in the permit-gathering phase for the project, and has set no timetable for financing or construction.

Commissioners also are expected to consider bids for a wetlands delineation study of property it owns on Thompson Road. The district is attempting to sell the property, which was earmarked for the new central facility until the Bayview property became available.
