Diking officials to meet Thursday

Island County Diking District 1 commissioners are scheduled to meet next week. The commission last met in May, but the March, April and June meetings were cancelled.

The commission will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 1, at the Freeland Library meeting room, 5495 Harbor Ave.

Commissioner John Shepard has requested several housekeeping items be placed on the agenda, along with his own presentations regarding the public’s right to record open meetings, the public’s right to read draft minutes of open meetings and the district’s policy on easements and encroachment on its property.

Meanwhile, commissioners are still awaiting a court decision on a lawsuit against the diking district by a group of its residents over the handling of a $430,000 pump project.
