Allen continues to cling to 18-vote lead in Langley council race

Allen still leads in the race with 52 percent of the vote, while fellow council hopeful Thomas Gill has 47 percent of the vote.

An additional 32 votes in the race were counted Wednesday as Island County elections workers wrapped up the latest count from Tuesday’s election. Allen has 199 votes, while Gill has 181.

Another 2,083 votes were counted today from voters on Whidbey and Camano islands, though election workers had hoped to tally at least 3,000. A total of 24,804 ballots have been counted so far in this year’s General Election.

The next count is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 10.

In the other contested Langley race, Jim Sundberg now has 275 votes, or 67.9 percent of ballots cast, for Position 3 on the city council. Robin Adams has collected 130 votes, for 32 percent.

A total of 405 votes have been counted in the race.

Voters in the Freeland Water and Sewer District have elected Marilynn Abrahamson and Lou Malzone to the district’s board of commissioners. The pair won in a landslide over incumbent commissioners Jim Short and Nolen “Rocky” Knickerbocker.

Malzone has 79 percent of the vote, while Knickerbocker has 20 percent. Abrahamson has won election with 76 percent, and Short has 23 percent, in the latest tally.

With 3,735 votes counted in the race for Position 4 on the board for the South Whidbey Parks and Recreation District, Joel Gerlach now has 59 percent of the vote, while Jean R. Streitler has 40 percent.

County officials estimate the turnout for the Nov. 8 election at 52 percent.

Results from the 2011 General Election will be certified as official on Tuesday, Nov. 29.
