R. Bruce Allen has picked up seven more votes and now has a 25-vote lead over Thomas Gill in the race for Position 4 on the Langley City Council.

Island County election workers finished the latest tally of votes for the 2011 General Election late Thursday.

Another 4,200 ballots were counted in today’s count, the second since Election Day and the third count overall, and a total of 29,004 ballots have been tallied countywide.

In Langley, a total of 461 votes have been cast in the Position 4 race, and Allen has 243 to Gill’s 218. Allen has 52 percent of the vote, and Gill has 47 percent.

In the other contested race for a council seat, Jim Sundberg now has 65 percent of the vote to Robin Adams’ 34 percent for Position 3.

Another 80 ballots were counted in the race, and Sundberg has 317 votes. Adams has 168.

The latest count narrowed the gap between the pair. At the end of Wednesday’s tally, Adams had 32 percent of the vote, and Sundberg, nearly 68 percent.

Sundberg will be sworn in to Position 3 after the election is validated on Nov. 29. He replaces Councilwoman Fran Abel, an appointed member of the council who decided not to run for election.

Allen will take office in January. Councilman Bob Waterman now serves the city in Position 4, but he did not seek re-election.

The next count is planned for Thursday, Nov. 17.

County election workers expect there will be 50 ballots to count. That estimate includes ballots that may come in the mail that are postmarked by Election Day or earlier, and ballots that have issues with validation signatures that must be resolved before the ballots can be counted.
