Clinton resident Maury Hood’s grandparents were honored recently with the dedication of a historic sign at Hood Park in Burbank, Wash., that detailed their ties to the property.

Hood attended the dedication with his wife, Donna Hood.

The sign explains that the area was originally farmland owned by Frank and Laura Hood, Maury’s grandparents, from 1915 to 1950.

The US Army Corps of Engineers purchased the land from Frank and Laura Hood in 1950 to avoid flooding from McNary Lock and Dam in Walla Walla, which was expected to cover the entire area.

The portion that was not flooded became Hood Park, according to a press release. The park now stands on the Snake River in Walla Walla county, though it is closed for the season.

Maury and Donna Hood donated the sign to the park. It was designed by Joe Menth and Fine Balance Imaging in Langley. The sign was unveiled on Sunday, Sept. 11.

The event included a Hood family reunion at the park.
