County seeks Community Health Hero nominations

Do you know an exceptional volunteer in the health field?

Perhaps they qualify as a Communuty Health Hero, an annual recognition presented by Island County Public Health.

Nominations are being accepted until April 17 for the award named in honor of Linda Lee Martens, a former executive secretary of the Island County Public Health and a memorable participant in many local activities. “She was a hero because she was an ordinary person with an extraordinary love for others,” according to the Island County Community Health Advisory Board that started the award in 2000 following Martens death.

There are three award categories: adult, youth and agency.

Nominees should, through voluntary service “have directly or indirectly impacted community health, including but not limited to health care, environmental health, nutrition, safety or quality of life.”
