Cranberry Lake opens for swimming

Roger Case, MD, health officer for Island County, opened the west side of Cranberry Lake at Deception Pass State Park to swimming after a nine month closure due to high levels of bacteria. Case said continued water quality testing has shown consistently low levels of bacteria and the risk of illness from swimming is now greatly reduced.

Case said continued water quality testing has shown consistently low levels of bacteria and the risk of illness from swimming is now greatly reduced.

The swimming beach will be open on weekends only from 11 a.m. to evening until June 1. After June 1 the swimming beach will also be open on weekdays.

Case said Public Health will monitor Cranberry Lake waters throughout the summer to assure that the lake’s waters remain safe for swimming. For more information, contact 360-679-7350.
