‘Fairies’ visit Meerkerk Gardens

Small sprites were seen prancing through the bushes with freshly made fairy wands in hand, ravishing in their winged and glittery glory.

The vibrant colors of hundreds of blooming rhododendrons set the backdrop for some visiting pixies at Meerkerk Gardens on April 17 and 18.

Two days of “Fairy and Flower Fun” was the theme at the Greenbank garden, which is currently at its peak bloom time for its acres of flowering plants.

Children dressed in proper fairy attire participated in garden games, bee dances, wand-making, a fairy parade and the Flower Fairy Tales storytime with Jayanne Bixby of the Freeland Library.

Flower songs were sung, and bees and butterflies danced from bloom to bloom.

Garden volunteers said this is the best time to visit Meerkerk Rhododendron Gardens. In addition to the peak blooms, the garden is currently featuring a plant sale with a colorful variety of carefully raised rhodies in different sizes. To find out more, visit www.meerkerkgardens.org.
