The Edible Book Festival fundraiser returns to South Whidbey in April.

The Edible Book Festival fundraiser returns to South Whidbey in April.

Hosted from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 2 at Bayview Hall by the South Whidbey Parks and Aquatics Foundation, the event is known for the wild creativity of turning a work of literature into a table-ready dish.

The consumable art exhibition calls for chefs, cooks and bakers to create literary influenced edible books. Inspiration can come from a graphic novel or book, but the creation must be made from edible ingredients. Categories include best in show, best visual presentation, most punderful and most appetizing. There are no restrictions for what kind of dish — entree, appetizer, dessert — the edible books can be, so long as it can be safely consumed.

Anyone interested in participating is asked to send an email with contact information, the book title, entry title, name and age allow for the organizers from the South Whidbey Parks and Aquatics Foundation to plan for space. A voluntary registration donation is encouraged by the organizers. There is no deadline for entering, and registration is available the day of the event from 1 to 1:30 p.m.
