Gambling leads to ice cream store theft

A 27-year-old man admitted to stealing from a Langley ice cream shop in April, but later paid it back, court documents say.

Prosecutors charged Storm D. Addison in Island County Superior Court Nov. 7 with burglary in the second degree and theft in the third degree.

The owner of Sprinkles Ice Cream shop reported to Langley police that Addison, an employee, had entered the business after hours and stole several hundred dollars from the safe.

The owner reported receiving a call from Addison in which he admitted to stealing the money, about $460, for gambling at a casino.

Addison said he had a gambling problem and lost all the money at the casino, the police report states. He told an officer that he had hoped to win enough to pay back the money.

Addison reimbursed the business with a money order a couple of weeks later.

If convicted of the charges, Addison could face up to 364 days in jail under the standard sentencing range.
