Helen Price Johnson, the Democrat in the four-way race for the District 1 position on the Island County board of commissioners, is leading in the battle for campaign contributions, according to records on file with the state.

Price Johnson collected total donations of $45,275 through July.

Her campaign said it had $18,305 remaining.

Incumbent Republican Phil Bakke reported donations of $38,886. His campaign had a cash-on-hand amount of $10,020 on July 29.

Curt Gordon raised a total of $19,669 in the race. Gordon is running as a no-party candidate.

According to a finance report on file with the state, he had a cash-in-hand amount of $5,054 on July 29.

Republican Reece Rose has raised the least amount of any candidate in the commissioner’s race.

Her campaign said it had raised $15,856 through July 29.

Rose has $2,397 remaining in her campaign war chest at the end of July, according to paperwork on file with the Public Disclosure Commission, the state’s campaign watchdog.

Among local candidates, longtime incumbent Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen has the most money heading into the final weeks before the primary on Aug. 19.

Haugen reported total contributions of $143,435, and her campaign said it still had $86,093 in hand.

The 10th District senator is facing a primary challenge from America’s Third Party candidate Sarah Hart and Republican Linda Haddon.

Hart has raised $819 in total donations for her campaign. She had a cash balance of $250 on July 29.

Haddon, who filed her financial disclosure form a day late with the state, reported total contributions of $60,480 through July 30.

Haddon had $40,909 remaining in her campaign coffers at the end of last month.

In the other contested primary race in the 10th Legislative District, Rep. Barbara Bailey was well ahead of her fellow candidates in campaign contributions.

Bailey, an Oak Harbor Republican seeking reelection to the Position 2, 10th District seat in the state House of Representatives, raised $81,305 through the end of July. She had a cash-on-hand amount of $32,553, according to the Public Disclosure Commission.

Democratic challenger Patricia Terry has raised $58,622 in contributions through July. Her campaign has $5,215 in available funding.

Fellow Democrat Ann McDonald has raised a total of $28,100. She reported available funding of $617 on July 29.

In the race for governor, Republican challenger Dino Rossi continues to outpace incumbent Gov. Christine Gregoire, a Democrat, in contributions raised in Island County.

Rossi has raised $63,688 in total contributions in Island County; Gregoire has raised $42,169.

Overall, Gregoire leads in the dash for cash.

Gregoire has reported total contributions of $8.6 million, while Rossi has collected $6.7 million.

Candidates in the primary will not have to report total donations again until Aug. 12, seven days before the vote.
