Langley artists to be recognized at Saturday ceremony

Three artists who made sculptures for Second Street will be officially recognized by Mayor Tim Callison at 1 p.m. on Jan. 7.

Dan Freeman’s metal sculpture installed in front of the Langley Post Office titled “Opening Flower” will be the first to be recognized.

Next will be Jan Hoy and her metal sculpture “Corteen Steel,” which is installed on the south side of the Second Street plaza.

The third and final artist is Dexter Lewis. Lewis created a wood and metal sculpture titled “Artobelisk.” It is installed on the north side of the Second Street plaza, across from Hoy’s work.

The sculptures will be on display until June 2018. In the event of a sale on any of the three works, 20 percent of the sales price will go to the city of Langley. The artwork is part of the City Public Arts Project’s effort to develop physical beauty throughout the city that in turn supports the creative economy, according to Frank Rose, chairperson of the Langley Arts Commission.
