The Langley City Council approved an agreement to utilize the parking lot at all times and days, except during church services Sunday morning. Langley is responsible for filling in holes, striping the spaces and sweeping it at least twice a year. The deal goes through 2018 and may be renewed, upon mutual agreement, for another three years.

A previous agreement called for the city to provide sidewalks up to Sixth Street from the church. That never happened, said Mayor Fred McCarthy, and is not likely to occur any time soon, so it was removed from the current deal.

“We simplified it,” McCarthy said.

Councilman Bruce Allen asked the mayor and staff to pursue the inclusion of a sign stating the lot is available to the public. Langley has a similar deal in place with the Island Church of Whidbey on the corner of Sixth Street and Cascade Avenue, where a sign listing the lot as public parking with hour restrictions on Sundays was installed.
