Langley officials asks public to limit water usage for sewage project

City Hall is requesting that residents limit and conserve as much as water as they can May 16-18.

City Hall is requesting that residents limit and conserve as much as water as they can May 16-18. Due to pump issues with the city’s main sewer lift station at Seawall Park, crews have scheduled a pump and piping replacement. The lift station is one of three that pumps raw sewage from town to the treatment facility.

In order to complete the project, vital equipment will be taken offline to reduce capacity. Tanker trucks will be pumping and hauling the sewage to the treatment plant during the process.

Public Works Director Stan Berryman said there is no need for alarm, that utilities will still function properly. Citizens are requested to conserve and limit their water usage so it does not enter the sewage system during the process.

“It’s not a crisis, but we’d like to see people limit and conserve as much water as they can,” Berryman said. “We’re hooking up and replacing two pumps down in Seawall Park down by the waterfront. There won’t be any traffic shutdowns or anything.”

Though the project is expected to last three days, Berryman is hopeful it can be completed in a day and a half or two days. Work will begin around 8 a.m. Monday morning.

“We wanted to make people aware, and so it will help us out so we don’t overload the system,” Berryman said.
