The city has installed a $6,000 security system at its wastewater treatment plant on Coles Road following a series of break-ins, Public Works Director Challis Stringer told the Langley City Council at its last meeting.

The three break-ins, the latest about a month ago and the other two between then and this past spring, resulted in the loss of about $10,000 worth of equipment, Stringer said.

She said missing items include four generators, assorted tools and a jetter used on the city’s sewer lines.

Stringer said the city filed a police report and insurance claim, but there has been no trace of the missing items. The investigation continues.

“Hopefully, we can restock,” Stringer said.

She said city officials had been considering a security system before the break-ins, “and this firmed up our decision.”
