Lawsuits against agency claim driver negligence

Two people have filed lawsuits against Island Transit over an incident that occurred three years ago.

Oak Harbor attorney Kenneth Manni filed two separate complaints for monetary damages in Island County Superior Court Oct. 31 on behalf of clients Alamash M. Aketch and Cynthia A. Ousley.

The lawsuits allege that a bus driver was negligent when he abruptly slammed on the brakes, causing the two women, who were passengers, to be thrown forward and slam into the body of the bus.

The incident occurred Sept. 4, 2015, according to the lawsuits.

The plaintiffs are asking for monetary damages for property damage, physical injuries, pain and suffering, psychological trauma, loss of enjoyment of life, loss of consortium, medical expenses, wage loss and disability.

The lawsuits ask for amounts to be proven at trial.

As required by law, the plaintiffs first filed a tort claim with the Department of Enterprise Services’ risk management and waited at least 30 days before filing the lawsuit in court.
