A 24-year-old sailor was killed in a collision Saturday afternoon on Ault Field Road. The incident was the seventh motorcycle accident on Whidbey Island since May.

Russell Blake was traveling east on a 2019 Jiangsu Baodiao motorcycle behind a 1987 Imperial Limited motor home, according to a Washington State Patrol report. The motorhome was driven by Oak Harbor resident Garrel Powers, who was using the center lane to make a wide right turn when Blake attempted to pass on the right.

Blake, who did not have a valid motorcycle endorsement, applied the brakes and was ejected. Blake was a second class petty officer at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, according to a base spokesman.

Powers and the two passengers in the motorhome were not injured.

Another motorcyclist was killed Aug. 31 in a collision with a pickup on North Whidbey. Carlton Miller, 27, collided with a Chevrolet Silverado on Highway 20.

On July 1, Freeland resident Brett Higgins died at the scene after his motorcycle was struck at the intersection of Cultus Bay and Deer Lake roads.

Deer were involved in two August incidents, one of which caused serious injuries to the motorcyclist.

A man crashed a stolen motorcycle following a high-speed chase in early July on North Whidbey.

On Memorial Day, a man and woman who had been riding a 2007 Harley Davidson were transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious injuries from a collision with a pickup on Highway 20 south of Coupeville.
