Island County will spend $314,700 to buy a new election system from Hart InterCivic, of Austin, Texas, according to public documents and confirmation from the company.

The Board of Island County Commissioners in late December agreed to license Hart’s digital Verity voting system for five years. It had been using an older version of Hart’s system.

The county will receive five PCs on which to run the Verity software, five 23-inch flat-screen monitors, 20 flash memory cards, two ballot printers, two voting booths, two ballot-marking devices, three central ballot scanners, eight days of training, and licenses to use various pieces of related software for five years.

Training and installation are scheduled for two weeks in March, and the new system will be ready for May’s presidential primary or an April special election if necessary, said Hart, in a prepared release.
