Emily Harris, a student at Haller Middle School in Arlington, spent a week as a page for the Washington State Senate in Olympia, according to a recent news release.

Harris was one of 14 students chosen to serve as pages for the ninth week of the 2015 legislative session. Harris was sponsored by 10th Legislative District Sen. Barbara Bailey.

The Senate Page Program is an opportunity for all students in Washington State to spend time working in the Legislature.

Students transport documents and deliver messages and spend time in the senate chamber. They also attend page school where they learn about parliamentary procedure and the legislative process, according to the release.

Students also hold a mock legislative session.

“It was a pleasure to have Emily work with me in Olympia,” said Bailey, in the release. “She is an inspiration for other young girls to get involved in public service. I hope that she found the time here in the Capitol valuable.”

Harris said that she enjoyed learning about the checks and balances of state government, and witnessing all of the action.
