Oak Harbor man dies in one-car accident Thursday morning

A 74-year-old Oak Harbor man died in a car accident on Highway 20 near Coupeville Thursday morning.

The Washington State Patrol reported that Ralph D. Flores was westbound in a 2011 Toyota Highlander on the highway. It is believed, the state patrol reported, that he suffered “a medical episode” that caused him to swerve to the left at milepost 23.

The Highlander crossed the centerline and left the road to the left. The vehicle traveled through brush, went down an embankment and came to rest at the bottom on the ditch, the state patrol reported.

The report indicates that Flores was transported to WhidbeyHealth Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The state patrol lists the cause of the accident as “medical.”
