Langley is considering the creation of rules that would pave the way for permit parking in residential areas.

Jeff Arango, the city’s planning chief, is working on a draft ordinance that would allow permit-only parking in residential areas if at least 50 percent of affected residents sign a petition of support.

The genesis of the ordinance is the result of Second Street residents who are complaining about a range of parking issues that stem largely from Mo’s Pub and Eatery customers.

The complaints range from lack of parking and people pulling into and blocking private driveways late at night to slamming car doors, loud motorcycles and headlights shining in windows.

The proposal for rules that would allow permit parking zones went before the council Monday and was favorably received. City officials will move forward with drafting the ordinance and return to the council for action.
