Port of South Whidbey approves overnight parking at Possession Beach

Overnight parking at Possession Beach Park has been established by the Port of South Whidbey, officials said.

Overnight parking at Possession Beach Park has been established by the Port of South Whidbey, officials said.

A dozen spaces have been set aside in the upper lots of the park, eight of which can be used for vehicle-trailer combinations, said Dane Anderson, port finance manager.

He said the spaces are available by permit only, which can be purchased for $10 per night for up to 10 nights each at the port office, Suite 101, 1804 Scott Road in Freeland.

Access to the parked vehicles will only be possible when the park is open, and vehicles can’t be removed from the lots after closing time.

He said the new overnight parking at the park at the southernmost tip of Whidbey Island will benefit hikers and kayakers who want to begin their journeys in a rural setting, especially as an entry point to the popular Cascade Marine Trail.
