The Port of South Whidbey will hold its second open house next week concerning its August primary election fairgrounds ballot measure.

The meeting is 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, July 11, in the Coffman (4-H) building at the fairgrounds, 819 Camano Ave. in Langley.

Port officials will be in attendance to answer questions about the proposal.

The port is asking for the public’s OK to take over ownership of the 13-acre property from Island County, and approve a levy hike that would bring in an additional $200,000 per year for facility operations and maintenance. The port has mandated that both parts must be approved for the measure to pass.

The district held its first open house last week at the fairgrounds, and participated in a League of Women Voters forum in Freeland on Thursday. Port officials have said they’re eager for a healthy turnout on Monday so they can explain the proposal in detail.

The measure will be decided on the Aug. 2 primary ballot.
