Port of South Whidbey Commissioners moved to install electronic combination locks for restrooms at South Whidbey Harbor during a regular meeting on Tuesday, April 8.

The locks would be in use during evening hours when the facilities are unstaffed. During daylight hours the restrooms will remain open.

Consultant Dane Anderson said installing the electronic locks is a common practice within port districts.

Commissioner Dennis Gregoire said the locks would need to have some flexibility, as daylight hours change.

Anderson said the timing of the locks can be changed and configured to the staff member’s needs.

For people using the marina overnight, the harbormaster will inform them of the code before leaving for the night. By morning, the lock will turn off based on a timer.

The cost of the locks is $2,300 from All Island Lock & Key. Depending on availability of the locksmith, the locks will be installed in the coming weeks.
