Kelly M. Kirk will take over as assistant principal and athletic director at South Whidbey High School.

After Scott Mauk’s resignation this spring to become the principal of Edmonds Heights K12, the South Whidbey School District announced its search for an assistant principal. The position is slated to begin July 1 at the start of the new school year.

Kirk will make a base salary of about $80,000 in his first year as a school administrator. He taught high school English for 15 years and was a department head for 10 years. The past seven years, Kirk was the athletic director and an administrative assistant at Decatur High School.

“Kelly demonstrates expertise in effectively managing athletics while also providing teacher leadership and supporting a positive climate,” said Superintendent Jo Moccia.

“We look forward to his arrival in July!”
