Sunday celebration at Deer Lagoon Grange

Darrell Wenzek to be honored

Deer Lagoon Grange and one of its outstanding neighbors will be celebrated 2 p.m. Sunday at an open house.

This year marks the creation of the Grange movement 150 years ago on the Potomac River.

The Deer Lagoon Grange is in its 91st year supporting youth and agriculture and helping with many activities around South Whidbey.

Island County Commissioner Helen Price Johnson will present the Island County Commissioner’s Proclamation of April 2018 as “Island County Grange Month.”

Deer Lagoon Grange will also present its annual “Community Citizen Award” to Darrell Wenzek, according to a press release.

Wenzek is being recognized for his efforts to help troubled families and individuals. He is pastor of South Whidbey Community Church, which supports the ministries of Helping Hand, Lakeside Bible Camp, Pregnancy Care Clinic, Samaritan’s Purse and Young Life.

The open house will include speakers from the Goosefoot Foundation, Whidbey Island Grown and Whidbey Island Fair.
