Central Whidbey Island Fire and Rescue picked up three kayakers struggling against the wind and current Sunday between Hidden Beach and Camano Island, according to Capt. Jerry Helm.

The district received a call of two adults and a child in distress at 4:48 Sunday, he said.

Helm said rescue was aided by the bright red of the kayak and life jackets.

They were found right away. No one was injured.

“Even though it’s summer time, the water temperature is still very cold and people need to wear life jackets, even if they’re strong swimmers,” he said.
