Threshold singers share bedside songs

Whidbey Threshold Singers honor the ancient tradition of women singing at the bedside of those who are ill or dying.

Whidbey Threshold Singers honor the ancient tradition of women singing at the bedside of those who are ill or dying.

The group, which sings by invitation only in groups of two to three, hopes to bring comfort and peace to those in need, and family members and caregivers are invited to participate by listening or sometimes singing.

The songs are offered free of charge, and include rounds, chants and lullabies, many of which were composed particularly for bedside singing.

The Whidbey Threshold Singers are not associated with any church or religious group and feel that their songs can uplift people of many different spiritual orientations.

New singers are always welcome.

Volunteers who can carry a tune, have the time to commit to regular rehearsals (Tuesdays) and love singing in service are encouraged to call Christa Straub (South End) at 331-7633 or Linda Edling (North End) at 360-678-1073.
